earthr
Earthr @_earthr is an artist duo created in 2021 in Brooklyn, NY by artist Rob Rose (he/him) and artist Earth Ængel (they/ them) They exhibited their work at the Goldsmiths Thesis show in London in July of 2022 titled Feast or Famine. Feast or Famine highlighted a declassification of gender roles in symbiosis with the declassification of ecology – found in Aristotle’s “the Great Chain of Being” where men in power began to classify the order of things and roles of ALL living beings as a form of control and dominance. This was an attempt to melt that down to form a new conversation on how we classify anything within the anthropocene.
Earthr attempts to MELT that classification through a queer lens. The idea is to meld this power structure into a new horizon of horizontal power dynamics- an ecosystem. After leaving London Earthr went on to the residency Rama Studios in Maceira, Portugal where they created a second body of work called Twister Cister. Currently they are working on a series of wax paintings and glass hydroponics.
Earthr focuses on breaking down the roots of ecology while also transcending through their own societal pressures and expectations around gender and relationships. In their practice they take turns in creating and making. While one comes up with the idea of the artwork, the other interprets and makes that idea/artwork. This taking of turns and passing off, or this kind of exchange happens to explore gender, labor, control, power dynamics, and systems of intellectual property. It is an experimental art practice with a focus on communication, healing, and surrender.
